Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

I remember the days of trick or treating
in my neighborhood of my small hometown.
My next door neighbor, Lola who was like our
Grandmother always made popcorn balls for us.
Unfortunately I have no pictures of us going.
So let us go back to my Grandmother's days.

My Grandmother sent this to her baby sister Esther

Now here is what she and Max were up to
in 1912
they were carving their Halloween pumpkins!

Happy Halloween
from my family to yours!

Great photos, Ann. So precious. I remember those popcorn balls. They were great! Too bad we can't trust homemade treats for our kids anymore :( So happy we have those memories, tho!

Ohhh, I remember the balls, only I think they were made of puffed rice where I lived, and then there were the houses that always had fudge, had to get to there! Do children even get excited about certain treats any more, I highly doubt it!!

Love your postcards, Halloween ones are hard to come by.

Happy Halloween!

I love your old pictures. Now days you can't give out popcorn balls because they might be "tainted". Sad, isn't it? Happy Halloween- xo Diana

I love these photos, Ann! So sweet! This is definitely one of my favorite days! I want to share with you a silly song we sang in church when I was a little girl. :)

"I looked out the window, and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree!
Spring had brought me such a nice surprise,
Blossoms popping right before my eyes.
I could take an armful and make a treat,
A popcorn ball that would smell so sweet.
It wasn’t really so, but it seemed to be
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree."

I used to sing this song all of the time when I was little! Your post reminded me of it. Thank you for that!
Happy Halloween :)

Those photos are amazing! I didn't realize that pumpkin carving went back that far. My grandma always used to make popcorn balls too. And some people used to give out caramel apples. Boy, things sure have changed!
