What vintage thingie did I find around the house this week?
My Great Grandmother's kitchen linens. Made from flour sacks
and she embroidered on them.
Here is just a quick sample.
If you did not see my Tuesday post, here is a towel I am using as a runner
on my Hoosier cabinet. Love the blue birds she made for the towel.
Hand stitched with love
There were more I found in the drawer of my cabinet
perfect for my kitchen, HOT DISHES with pink!
Salt and Pepper
I know I have some more with creamers and sugars
And I have given some away to my Mom's cousins. I thought it was
important that they had them because they were made by
their Grandmother.
Different stitches, different colors.
Some pinks, blues, yellows and reds.
If I saw these out antique shopping, I would have to
scoop them up and buy them.
My theme is to keep shopping my house and see
what treasures I can rediscover.

Nothing finer or more meaningful than things made by our ancestors hand. Real treasures you have. I have so many linens that were made by family members long gone now.
These are wonderful in so many ways! What a speacial thing to have and treasure!

That family link makes it all the more special. They are sweet and yes, if I saw them while shopping, I'D want to snatch them up too!
Oh, it's so special to have things made by ancestors! I love that first one with the bluebirds.
I have a buffet full of lovelies made by some of the women in my life! And, of course, use them from time to time.

Love the stitching from your grandma's hands. So sweet!
My grandma, mom and I all stitched things like these and I found only a few when grandma died. She ridded out things so no one would have to deal with all of the junk.

I loved that birdie towel when I saw it the other day! and these other embroidered pieces are wonderful as well. I'm so glad that you kept these, and shared some with your cousins. I have some beautiful embroidered pieces made by my Grandma too.
I love this post, everything is so charming. I adore the blue bird towel, so sweet. And I found linens, that were either my mother's or her mother's, with embroidered tea pot and cups too. So much fun!

The blue birds are so cute. That would be a nice quilt block. I have lots of treasures in my house. I using this time (we're empty nesters now) to sort through them and use them. I figure if I don't use what I own, it owns me.
Oh how neat! I love these! I have some from my grandma too. They hang on a rack at the end of my butcher block. So nice you shared them with family.

Embroidered towels tug at me more than any other handwork. They are the homiest and most personal thing. Don't you think? I always pick them up too. So special that you have your Gramma's
Those are so neat!!!! I agree with shopping at home-I need to do more of that-but I can't get to things!!!!
Isn't it sweet to hold the things your family once held? Of all my vintage goodies, the ones made by or saved by my mom and grandmothers are the best. Love your linens!
Hi Ann, I love to rediscover unused items around the house. You have some special treasures here. All the hand work is to be treasured and you are a special person to give some to your family members to be shared. My MIL does this work and I love to see all the pretty patterns she comes up with. Lovely post.

Hi Ann! Oh, what a treasure of lovely linens from your grandmother! I dearly adore those blue birds and would love to copy them! :) She was very talented with her dainty fingers! :) My grandmother did this sort of thing too and crocheted. I don't have any little kitchen towels but do have some doilies and a bedspread she crocheted!
