It's Christmas Night

It is Christmas Night
and here I sit alone.

My poor husband for the first time I have known
him in 15 years is actually sick with a
stomach virus.

Luckily we had my brother and SIL over yesterday
and last night was at Mr. Brother's.
But tonight we are missing dinner at his
sisters with my MIL.

It was not what I had planned.
But I had leftovers and ate on my Christmas dishes.

It makes me think of the Christmas of 1977.
I was a senior in HS, and my Mother got the
stomach flu, we had a blizzard and well....
let's just say it was not what we had planned.

However, it is the Christmas I will never forget.
I made dinner, my first turkey. I was so upset
that I left the gizzard in! I cried.
But my dear sweet Daddy laughed and
told me it was ok.
But I was proud I made the entire dinner for us
that Christmas.
And of course after the snow stopped and
Mom felt better we made it to my Grandparents
the next day or so.

Why is that Christmas so special?
It was my Dad's last Christmas, and I am able to
say that at 17, I cooked him a
Christmas dinner.

I am really missing my parents and grandparents tonight.

Sometimes things do not work out they way we plan.
But as my Uncle Don told me years ago, "we don't know
why things happen they way we do but their is a reason".
That was the reason that season.

Merry Christmas

A good memory for you, Ann. I really miss my Granny at Christmas. She made everything so special for all of us!

Oh Ann, what a lovely story of your dad's last Christmas here. I am so glad that you got to do that for him. I am sorry your hubby is sick. 2 years ago, mine was so sick we couldn't have my father in law with us for Christmas. He died 2 weeks later.
This Christmas has been wonderful for us- the only thing missing is mom, my grandparents and hubby's parents. I wish they could have been here with us. We have talked about them so much this weekend, it's like having them here- almost.
I so know how you feel.
They are with us. When you miss them the most, that's when they are standing behind you, smiling with a hand on your shoulder. Feel them.
Hugs- Tete

A Terrific memory for you Ann! I think sometime those memories are the very best ones!I hope your hubby is well soon. Lots of junk going around. Even a flu for dogs I heard! My son had to take his big dog Smokey to the vet. He had an eye infection.
I miss my folks during this time of year. But they would be so proud if they saw us all together today!
Hope your day was blessed.

I'm sitting here, knowing you are sitting there, writing and thinking about this story. It's interesting that we think of these things when things don't go our way. Wow that's a lot of "things".
Twice, I left that darn little bag of yucky stuff in the turkey. We laughed, and they never let me forget it. Randy cooks now. Makes me happy.
How wonderful that you remember cooking for your dad. How wonderful that you remember the appreciation.
Nothing compares to our memories. I truly believe that is what is keeping me going these days.
I was visiting with Sister Lolotte today. She makes me so so happy, even though we cried tears for my mom.
We also went into the chapel and she blessed me.
I hope your hubby gets better really soon Ann.
Enjoy the quiet time. Sometimes we need it.
Sending you warm hugs from Canada

I think, Ann, that many of us have cooked a bird with the giblets left in. A few years ago my daughter decided to cook Thanksgiving dinner, and yes, the giblets were baked right along with the rest of the bird--inside. She felt dumb, but we laughed. No harm. I think we can all recall the last Christmas with our parents. We miss them so much. I like what Tete says, our dear loved ones are always nearby. Sometimes in those quiet alone moments we take time to reflect and remember. We hope that that the memories make us feel good. I hope that your hubby gets better.

Oh Ann, I believe that with my whole heart-things do happen for a reason, although I hate that your husband was sick and you ate all alone. Maybe it was a quiet time for relection, but I'm glad that you treasure those simple times so much! Merry Christmas!
