The Work is Never Done?

Mr. Sentimental and I have a big Memorial Day party every year, mostly my husbands family and neighbors. So this weekend the spring clean up continued! Our back deck is in the shade most of the day until late in the day so there is always mold to get off the deck.

But it also made me clean out my back porch cabinet, I love so dearly.

When my husband and I got married he was living in the former home of his parents. He is a 3rd generation painting contractor. I found this is the basement and I knew I had to have it! My husband was like "what do you want with that old thing". He and his Dad had kept overalls in it ! I think my mother in law thought I was nuts.

But I thought it would be great on the porch to keep my gardening things in, pots, tools and old watering cans. It is what started me collecting vintage garden items which led to building my garden cottage.

All organized now, although the photo doesn't look like it?

the green and pink pots I picked up on a trip to France and the pansy seeds in French I haven't had the heart to use, just like the look.

A collection of ladies in waiting to be potted!

The two drawers hold all my flags and gloves

I think it was painted my favorite color green before someone painted it white. My mother in law said the cabinet was in the basement when they bought the house in 1950.

The door has a etching on it of what looks like a iris, sorry the picture does not pick it up.

Years ago on a weekend trip to Galena IL I picked this up for $2 to hold tools, it was made in England
Tools in there spot ready for use
Top of the cabinet with more tools ready to go. My collection of old watering cans I leave up year around.

Found these spices jars in the cabinet, think they make pretty good little vases.

Our dove fountain clean and ready. One year, when we got back from Paris I got sick with a respiratory infection as soon as I got off the plane. Husband ran up to the nursery and bought this fountain for our anniversary. So enjoy the sound of the water on the deck.

Hope you enjoyed the tour of our back deck.

What a wonderful spot of your home. The watering cans all lined up are so pretty, and that vintage cabinet is just lovely. I think due to the etching, it was in it's day a wonderful wood piece, perhaps oak or cherry? Just a great piece of furniture all together.

I love the old cabinet, too! What a fun piece and I love all the fun you have tucked away inside!
I just love all your signs, too!
Well, I did get in and got my booth loaded. Craig is on his way to Ctown to do some banking and he is going to stop by the mall and get some photos for me. Forgot my camera on Saturday. I was going to go with him this morning, but this stupid medicine is making me sick. It's 66 out this morning with a cool breeze and it's just wonderful.
Craig's going to bring lunch home from McD's.
Have a great day!
Hugs- Tete

This is easily my favorite post of the day, and probably of the whole week! I LOVE that cabinet and all of the goodies inside it. It constantly amazes me how people used cabinets like that in the garage and basement, to hold paint and hardware. My grandparents had the coolest old cabinet in their garage, holding old paint. When they passed away, my aunt moved in and dragged that cabinet into the house, and it looks fantastic!
Do you have squirrels? I put some pottery on our porch, and a squirrel knocked it down and it broke into several pieces :-(
