Show of Your Cottage Monday

Since I have the upstairs all cleaned I thought I would show you my spare bedroom. Or as we call it "Mom's Room". When ever my Mom came to visit that is where she stayed and she use to laugh and tell me she probably at least owned that room. I bought my house before I was married and my dear Mother was the one that helped me move, paint, decorate you name it, so she earned the room!

Many of the things in the room where my Grandmothers. So take a tour and see if you would enjoy spending the night there!

Sleigh bed that I got at auction for $150, love it dearly. White bedspread I think my parents had when they got married in 1947, still looks new. Had to have the criss cross curtains, they look like the 40's,

Quilts made by my Great Grandmother. Love to sleep curled up under them.

Shelve with things that belonged to my Grandmother. The sampler was a present to my Grandmother when I was 10.......no close ups here! I was not that talented!

The Windsor rocking chair is small, bigger than a child's but not full size. It was my Grandmothers and it was perfect for her.....she was only 4 ft 9! The pillow my Mom made for me per my request, and I do think of her every time I see it.

Top of wardrobe is all my Grandmothers hats and hat boxes, so glad I kept them. Also my Clark thread spool holder, still trying to find all the colors to fill in.

Dresser top.

Picture of my Maternal Grandmother, who most of these things belonged to. Including the little girl dressed in blue.

Family pictures, postcards and graduation name cards.

Purses I just found tucked in a box!

Grandparents on the way to a Masonic or Eastern Star event. Love the blue and silver purse that I just uncovered in a box.

This is so pretty and filled with her handkerchiefs.

Have always displayed the mesh evening bag, but of course she had the original box it came in.

My Paternal Grandfathers WWI trunk, if I can find a place to put all the things in it, will be headed to 1515 where it started.

My Singer sewing machine I purchased. I remember my Mom had one and she threw it out for the garbage man when she got a new one in the 1960's!

Loved Holly Hobbie when I was young and had the plate hanging in my bedroom when I was little. The other things I found in Grandma's sewing box.

Love the needle packs, especially the mother and baby.

My Moms tiny red doll buggy, it even swivels.

My Grandmothers child's rocker we found under the house in the crawl space. Had no idea she had it!
Built in bookcase, displaying my Mothers baby and adult pictures. Also my and my Paternal Grandmothers Nursing books....that is her Nursing License issued in 1918.

Treasured picture of 4 generations. The baby is my Grandmother with her Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother taken in 1904.

So I hope you enjoyed looking around. I am so blessed to surround myself with these things that meant so much to my ancestors. I am just glad I had the sense to save all these things. You see, I bought my house the same time my Grandfather died. Mom use to say " If you don't get the house, your not keeping all these things". Thank goodness I did!

Vintage Children Books

I knew Tete at Beyond the Garden Gate was having a collection party and believe me I have COLLECTIONS......but what to post?

I had taken some pictures of my guest room after I got it all cleaned. One of the pictures is of my Mother's books from her childhood. Love the graphic details on them. I can remember reading them when I was little too. I especially loved the story of Poppy.

Have a great Sunday!

The Fairy Tale Book scared me when I was little!!

Vintage Finds

Well so far I have worked harder on my vacation than I do at work, and that is saying alot! So yesterday I finally finished the upstairs cleaning and purging. The car was so full of stuff I barely had room for my purse. So on the way back from Goodwill there is a new second hand shop......well, I had to stop. So here is what I got! As you look at the picture, think about what you think I payed.....and tell me which is your favorite.

Purchases, pumpkin chair, bread box, ladle, pitcher and laundry bag.

I could not pass on the chair, he looks so happy. He needed to be on my porch to greet you!

He even comes with a black crow. Wonder what the birds that land on my porch will think?

The double decker bread box is going to 1515 to the yellow/red/white/black kitchen. I think it will look great, what do you think? I love the flowers on the front.

Both drawers pull down, so I am sure I will find something to store in it.......non food that is!

I collect pitchers and this little green will fit right in. It has a little chip on the back lip, but I don't care it adds character! Besides I never pay much for them and I love to fill them with flowers out of my garden. This is staying at home in my green living room.

I adore this! It is going to 1515 where I have a huge laundry room. It will be up next week.

I always think of the person who did this, and all the work that when into it. I appreciate it so.

So here is the tally:
Pumpkin Chair   $28 I could of made one cheaper, but I will never get around to it.

Bread  Box        $15 I later found an older price tag that said $45, so glad I snapped it up

Ladle                   $3 Trying to find some that are not wood, the hard plastic are great to use, the last.

Pitcher                 $2 Yep, just 2 bucks!

Laundry bag        $5  I think it may be my favorite

Have a great weekend and maybe next week you will see some post with the items at 1515.

Vintage Thingie Thursday

I'm on vacation and the weather is beautiful out....BUT I find myself trying to achieve a goal of cleaning out the closets in my bedrooms. Today I was going through my cedar chest, and found a afghan I forgot I had or never really payed attention to. It belonged to my Grandmother, I am sure one of her Eastern Star friends made it for her.

Because of reading all your blogs, it is making me look at my things in a different light. From the colors I thought.........."this will good in the living room for Fall".

So let me know what you think. I am sure it is about 40 yrs old.
Here is the before picture. My husbands rocking chair he got from a fire station years ago. The pillow on the right was made by my mom.

Here it is, kind of funky colors but it works for Fall!

Close up of the detail work.

Heres the after......out to enjoy after being in the cedar chest for 15 years!

Linking up with ColoradoLady for Vintage Thingie Thursday. Hope you discover an old treasuer in your house!

Fall Table Top Tuesday

Monday I showed the Dining room for Fall so today I am featuring the Living Room for Table Top Tuesday with Marty from a Stroll Thru Life.

Small bookcase next to my Library Table. Always have a display from my Postcard collection. Also vintage Gurney candles.

A closer look at some of the vintage Halloween Candles.
Vintage postcards and some cards my Mother sent me over the years.

Shelf above Library tabel to display more vintage and newer Halloween items.

Love the antique cat and basket I found a few years ago.

The paper witch on the left I have had since I was young.

The Squirrels are nesting above the curio cabinet.

I think Chip and Dale are up to something!!

One of my favorite things, a silver compote filled with glass acorns.

This picture of is up all year, but I love it. I always feel like I could step in there and be there in it!! Of course it belonged to my Grandmother.

My roses are still blooming and smell so sweet.

                                                             How about some M&M's?

                                                                        Above the TV

Just found the little celloid witches last year, so this is the first time they are up!

Celloid pumpkin and pumpkin head man.

Some of my Mothers amber glass.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my living room tabletops, ready for the Fall Holidays!!
