My Mom's Disney Toys

For Vintage Thingie Thursday I am going to show you my Mom's Disney toys she had as a little girl.

She had a Mickey and Minnie Washing Machine and one tin plate from Ohio Art, a Dopey figure and a celluloid Donald Duck.
Can you make out that Dopey is embedded in the cap of his head?

I don't remember seeing this when I was growing up? But my Mom found it after her father died and placed on a shelf in her kitchen and that is now where I have it too.

A little wooden handle actually turns
Here is the inside part that turns with the handle

Minnie does not look happy!
Mickey say "oh gosh"

This was found with the machine

Now Donald and Dopey I remember well. Every Christmas they sat under the Christmas tree at my Grandparents, not sure why Grandma did that?

Hope you enjoyed seeing some of my Mom's toys. She was born in 1925, just a few years before Mickey.

Halloween Decor to Pick Up

This weekend I went to Target to try and pick up the French flour sack dish towel everyone has been posting. Well I guess everyone bought them....none left! But here is what I did find.

If you know me at all, I love vintage things and things that look vintage to decorate with for any of the Holidays.

Vintage looking items for Halloween. Paper plates, napkins, honeycomb centerpieces and a Happy Halloween Banner.
The paper products are going to 1515 for cousins weekend coming up in Oct (can't wait!!)

2 in the package, aren't they adorable?

Now where do I want to put up the banner? On the staircase or in the cottage on the white mantle?

The banner and centerpieces are for only a total of $5.
Just thought I would share this tip with you, so head on out to Target.

have a great day,

Ann

Porch Painting

Saturday for Pink Saturday I posted the porch at 1515 with the primer my husband put on that was Pink. You all wanted to see the finished product, so lets join Metamorphosis Monday!

When I bought 1515 two years ago, I concentrated on updating the inside. The porch banister really needed to be painted.....what do you think?  And the floor too was showing wear.

The banister is large all the way around the porch and has always been fun to sit on

There I am with my brother and cousins in about 1965 leaning on the same banister.

My grandparents had everything painted gray but the new owners in 1978 put a stone front on the house and painted everything brown. I told my husband I felt like we were at a state park...it was that color brown.

Pre...gray porch and aluminum windows

My poor husband sanding, what a mess!

Here is the pink primer

Painted the aluminum the brown color, looks so much better.

The 1515 sign is painted and back up. As I left the house for the last time in 1978, I reached up and grabbed it as I left...so glad I did.

You can just barely make out the sign in this 1950 picture of my Grandmothers brothers.

Here it is all done, color Tile Red.  The porch swing we even sanded and put new chains up for it.
It made a huge difference to the old place. Next time I am home I will have to get the metal chairs back on it, they will look great with the new color.

Pink Saturday

A couple of weekends ago Mr. Sentimental and I went to do some work on 1515.
Mr. wanted to sand and paint the porch floor and rails for me.
When he got the primer on it looked like this!

Pink Primer! I had to tell myself he is the professional, he has had a paint brush in his hands since he could walk.

I missed it but apparently several people yelled from their cars as they passed by "hey! great color". Oh and the neighbors had to come check it out too. It was Pepto Pink for sure!

On Sunday morning I did a double take glancing in the living room.....there was a pink aura glow coming through the lace curtains! We all laughed!!

I wonder what they would of done if we left it pink?

Have a Great Pink Saturday.....we sure did!!

Blog Anniversary

A Sentimental Life celebrated its one year anniversary!

Sorry I have been away from reading and writing but it is for good reasons....too busy with family and friends!

My first post did not even have a picture, it was just a memory of my Grandparents.

My second post the next day was Waking up to Coffee in Grandmothers Kitchen. The post was about my girlfriends going to 1515 with me for the weekend to go to the corn broom festival in a local town. And as luck would have it they went back with me again this year.

I want to thank everyone who has followed me and all the wonderful friendships I have made. A big thank you to Robin of Decorating Tennis Girl who encouraged me to take the leap. It also seems my day is not complete unless I catch up with Tete at Beyond the Garden Gate and Rebecca at Ella Mae's Barn Gathering.

Here is a quick look at my last week!

Labor Day weekend saw Mr and I with the Indiana cousins and cousin Fred working on 1515.

It started with a 75th birthday party for one of the cousins

They have the most beautiful home in the country.

Birthday boy cousin Phil and cousin Fred

Look at ALL those Cakes!!  I went for the Guinness....yum!

Back at 1515 Mr getting ready to sand and paint the porch

I was busy setting up shop in the garage sanding my Grandmothers porcelain top table and another cabinet Mr had surprised me with and brought home.

Heidi even came along for the ride since her sitter went out of town too.

Mary and Marty washing windows

The weather was great and Mr and Fred tried out the little grill we have there.

We sat up for outdoor dining
I will show you all the finished projects at another time.

Home late Monday and Tuesday was my great nephews birthday. My brother is such a kid with his grandson!

Worked 40 hours in 3 days and then on to girls weekend

Our first stop was a burger at Moonshine

Then shopping in my hometown and then on to the festival and more shopping. We had a wonderful weekend.

I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family and group of friends.

I am working the next 4 days and am scheduled to work OT this week.

So if you don't hear from me I am sorry.

Again thanks for your friendship and support over the last year!

Love you all,
Ann

Wake up to coffee in Grandmothers kitchen

Grandad, Cousin Debbie, Me and Jessie 1968

About this time Saturday morning I will be making 2 of my friends some coffee at what we refer to as 1515. My grandparents house. Going over for a girls weekend and attend a local Broom Corn Festival.

Here is the updated kitchen, I did not even remember it had yellow walls until I found the old picture after I painted.

Here is the kitchen before I "flipped it" and after with cousin Mary in attendance!

This was my first post with a picture which is now one year ago!
So today is my blog anniversary.

It has been wonderful getting to know so many people, and await daily to see their creativity. I really appreciate Robin from Decorating Tennis Girl who got me started!
I have many new friends.........I really am so blessed to know Tete from Beyond the Garden Gate
and to learn how talented my distant cousins wife Rebecca of Ella Mae's Barn Gathering is.

I remember thinking no one read what I had to say, but you did and do and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Mean time my girlfriends and I are off to 1515 for a girls weekend and attend the local Broom Corn festival.

This last week I went the longest without a post. Last week Mr went to 1515 with me and we had a working weekend...he had all cousins doing work around the house. Work has been hectic and long not getting home till 9pm and I am exhausted, to tired to read or post!
When we get there today I can redecorate the newly painted porch
