Post Card Collection

When I first starting buying antiques, I did not have much money.  So when I came across a pretty postcard for $1 I felt like it was such a great buy for the money. That may of been 20 years ago but I feel the same way now! I will never be a serious collector because mine have been written on, the edges aren't perfect, but I love them. I can sit for an hour and just read the back of them. My favorite postcards are seasonal ones, but I love it when I come across one from my hometown.

One of my favorite memories of buying postcards occurred in Paris on the Seine. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there, and we use to go back yearly. The are areas by Notre Dame on the river where people rent out stalls and sell paper goods, usually books but anything paper. We came across one elderly lady selling postcards. They were inexpensive, I think it equalled $1 piece, so I was going to snap up as many as I could. The lady took a liking to me and as other people came she shooed them away! I think I bought about 50 cards. Some where Paris scenes, some were Easter, Christmas and flowers. Oh how I love them! When I was on our towns house tour, I scanned my French Christmas ones and made ornaments for one tree in my bedroom.

I can't believe I am letting you see my mess! This is where I keep them. Starting in the upper Lt corner are my Valentines, then goes in order with St. Patrick's, Easter, Spring, Flowers, Localities, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

This is such a treasure, my Chocolate advertising postcard book that I bought for $15 at a neighbor hood flea market that I go to when in Paris.

I need to frame these.

My Grandmother's cards she got at church as a girl.

Some that were sent to my Grandparents, guess I better take them to 1515.

I have them setting around the house as you can see from my blog header. This one I have sitting on my Grandmother's spoon collection holder......I thought it was the appropriate place for it!
