Yes I say that alot when I look at family pictures!
It is kind of fun to look at the background of a picture.
So next time you look at a family picture check out what else is in the picture
Look at Sears Christmas book and the TV guide.
But I am looking in the background...
notice the bedspread....It was always on my Mom and Dad's bed.
what about My Mom's end table behind my Grandmother?
there it is at 1515
OK I am not taking you in the basement, but see the flowered blue
rug..it is in my basement.
I still use that coffee maker, but for keeping ice tea or when I had my Christmas house tour we had hot chocolate in it. I have it in the original box.
I have the roasting pan...no you can not go in my pantry either!
But see the covered bridge tray?
above the stove at 1515..there it is!
Christmas 1969
oh boy, I have that blanket on the couch.
The ash tray next to my Grandfather.
Of course I still have tiny tears!
But the picture?
There it is above my buffet at home!
Christmas 1974...I was skinny!
There is my Grandmother's Johnson brother dishes
and there they are for Thanksgiving on my table.
I have the roll warmer, it is on the table behind the compote.
and the vegetable tray (in the original box)
The step stool hangs out to this day in my spare room.
It is great to use for hanging curtains.
Did you notice the vase with holly?
Here it is in my dining room
I guess I was taught to value things.
Grandmother kept things in their original boxes and it really
preserved them.
My Mother was proud of her cherry bedroom set and her
walnut end tables. They meant something to her and they do to me.

In this toss away society I guess I don't fit in.
Talk about repurpose!
I am, by using my Grandparents and parents things in my house.
So next time you look at a photo, what is going on in the background?
You might be surprised!
So go do it and tell me what you see!

What a great post, Ann! I think it is so neat that you have not only kept so many of your parents and grandparents treasures, but you still use and enjoy them, too! It is so sad that we live in such a throw away society, isn't it? We had furniture like the couch in your first photo, and similar vinyl covered dinette chairs, too!
Ann, You truly amaze me. I have never seen things in that good shape from the old days. You do take care of things. You are like a family museum curator. I love how all the items from your grandparents and parents meant so much to you. xoxox,Susie
It is so nice that you still appreciate and use the things from those years. When I go vintage shopping, I always find myself pulled to a certain item because it's just like the one my Mom had or my Grandma had. I think some part of us is always trying to recreate those perfect childhood years and the memories associated with them. I inherited a few things from my Grandparents and from my Great Grandma, too... and I feel so lucky, because not everyone has that opportunity. I had to chuckle when you showed the side tables from your Grandma's house... I have ths two side tables from my Grandma's house, too, and they are a bit similar to yours. :-)
I love love love this post!! Thank you for sharing!

Oh, Ann! This was a wonderful post! How fantastic you still have all of your grandmother's treasures. She is certainly looking down in love at you in that snap. How sweet.
I'm like you - I love to keep things and even though I don't have some of the wonderful things from family like you do, the things I have, I cherish. Now my daughter is another story. She can toss out things on a whim! ;)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I think you and I feel the same way about the old pictures and the old items - loved this post!
What a fun post! It's a good thing to NOT be a part of the throw away society! It's amazing how you reuse and love all the things from your family! In fact that makes YOU amazing and so sweet! Have a great week!
Great post! I think it's amazing that you still have all these beautiful family treasures. I do the same thing with old pictures, look in the background and smile when I see things in family photos that I still cherish in my home today:-)
Oh, Ann you are the best custodian of all your family treasures. Such a fun post.
Ann, I always feel so at home when I visit your blog. Those pictures look just like they could have come from my family, even Tiny Tears! Thank you for sharing!
Your posts are heartwarming....particularly this one....such a wonderful thing to see. You are a very special person to have cared for these things like you do. I think we are about the same age, it is fun to see what you grew up with....I had Tiny Tears as well :)

Ann,I think its both amazing and wonderful that you have kept and preserved so much of your family's history! I'm a "keeper" too and treasure the things from my Mom and Grandmother the most.
Thanks for sharing with us!
Oh- Ann- What a wonderful bunch of things you have that belonged to your family ..and to have old pictures of them in their original surroundings is just the icing on the cake. I love how you are so connected to your past- xo Diana
I enjoyed this post so much. I always like looking at the background in pictures. You are lucky to have been able to keep so many of your family's furnishings. It was very interesting seeing them then, and now. I also have a few pieces passed down through family. They have names, the Grandma D. table, the Grandma and Grandpa trunk, and the Grandma Z. table. These pieces often show up in the background of various old family pictures. My daughter gave me some Grandma Z. Depression/carnival glass items that my sweet MIL had given to her. She said they just weren't her decorating style. Thank goodness she gave them to me. I'll keep them, and someday I'll pass them back to her and maybe by that time they will be her decorating style. In the meantime, I think they are beautiful and definitely my style. I loved the picture of you with your Tiny Tears doll.
Loved your post! I'm like you - I love to have things that my family passed down thru the generations. Everything I have that was my folks is so special to me and I always think about where it was in their home.
Thanks for the blast from the past.
Judy
What a wonderful post!!! I've truly enjoyed it!!! We are a lot alike, I treasure everything from my parents, and yes, I also look around in the photos...I am warmed by the memories and feel my family and friends around me by decorating with these treasures. I am not one to follow 'trends' but like a collected look, its what makes a house a 'home'. I have that same coffee maker and in the original box too!!! Yes, we are caretakers........
Ann,
I L O V E that you have kept many home decor items from your Grandmother and Mother...and that you use them! I do the same!!! Nothing here was "in the original" box, though! The things I grew up with, give me a great sense of comfort in the absence of my loved ones!!! Isn't that what home is all about...comfort??? Keep showing us those amazing heirlooms...I L O V E it!!!
Fondly,
Pat
