Vintage Christmas Finds

My first venture out, well of course it was a vintage Holiday Market with my SIL.

some of the booths were gorgeous and I was surprised of how many 

vintage Christmas finds there were.

Since I can not lift my Christmas boxes Mr has been good about bring them up from the basement for me. But.......where is my garland for the hutch? My staircase lights and garland? My candles and candle rings? Under other boxes I can't lift!

So yesterday I improvised and had a grand time.

My Vintage Postcards are my go to item for making anything look festive.

I don't have the stamina to really clean my silver, but the semi tarnished look is in.

I had plenty of greens, what can I add?

but it needed something else? I had some mini lights I bought a Home Depot, little boots.

Improvisation can be good!

Oh and the other finds...........

My girls normally go on my tea cup shelf, but I did not want to pack things up so they will do find on top of the secretary with some vintage bottle brush trees.

I got this vintage box of snow for $3

In great shape.

I stuck greenery everywhere!

I also collect Vintage ornament hanger boxes. This was $1!

The Aluminum deer plate was a wedding gift to my Parents and I love using it at Christmas.

Vintage Santa seals, and a delicate Merry Christmas glass.

I can never pass up a vintage tea cup, I love the graphics

found this Swedish silver cup a few years ago.

And a few shiny bright ornaments.

I can put them in my bird tray with some greens and candles.

I think I got all of them for $2

Vacation Vintage Finds

Week one was spent at 1515

No cousin weekend, everyone cancelled on me but Mr. came over on Saturday for my birthday and we had a nice relaxing day together.

But cousin Karen and I have been out hunting as you saw in my previous post.

Last Friday we went to Champaign and I show you some pictures.

One place was going out of business after 45 years and everything was 50% off.

here were the picks from that day

this Christmas Mustache Mug was marked $39 but was 1/2 off

usually Christmas dishes are marked Bavaria or Austria so I was pleasantly surprised to see it was French.

The elderly store owner asked about my collection as we discussed it I noticed this hanging by the check out

a Nickel Plate train ticket.

My Grandfather worked on the NP and I have a small collection of his items at 1515 in my Dad's bedroom so I thought this would be good to add to it.

As I took it down the lady said "Oh honey you can have that"

how sweet of her but she was not done

she came from around the counter and gave me a package marked

"Christmas mice"

I want you to have this too!

In the car I unwrapped this and memories flooded back, I had the girl mice somewhere at home? Memories of buying Christmas trinkets as a little girl.

What a nice lady she made my day!

at the place with all the color coded booths I got this for $3, a seasons greetings box full of these Merry Christmas matches.

And what a great little book it is to plan a Halloween Party

Full of games, things to write for fortune tellers, plays, poems.

It is just adorable!

Happy to find these little pottery vases I collect for my kitchen window.

But there was shopping in Charleston too!

Looks like they are going for $50 or more so I was happy and it is in perfect shape.

I also got a yellow bowl that goes with my yellow hostess set and a round pixie in pink

Found these at a little garage a lady has open at her home on Saturdays

Cousin Karen had things she inherited

she wanted to know if I was interested?

Never used!

I paid her $40

Then this!

14 pieces of Fostoria!

square and round nappy's, plates,creamer and sugar.

I happily paid $60 for all of it.

But the best new thing was.............

Handmade by my sweet cousin Karen

she is about my 5th cousin and we met each other when I was the Charleston Riot Chairperson but we love being together and she has been such a blessing in my life.

Vacation= Pyrex hunting!

My cousin went to a antique mall in Champaign I had not been to.

Oh my!

I can not believe the number of Cosco carts and table and chairs they had.

Just love it when antique dealers set their booths up like this!

alot of yellow Pyrex hostess sets.

Loved the cart in the front on the left

How about some Pink!

the gooseberry Pyrex was $160 set.

I have the set minus the smaller pink bowl that I am still hunting!

Now for some......

Turquoise!

Balloon Pyrex chip and dip was $145! 

they even had a old turquoise bottle of Melmac cleaner!

Look at that gorgeous turquoise table. Everything was in such great shape.

I think I just stood there in awe.

A trip to my jeweler to get watch batteries turned into a grand discovery!

Fostoria and Onedia made Melmac dishes?

I have used the same Jewelry store for over 20 years. They have been in business since 1936 and are a 3rd generation business. They use to also be in the bridal business and I got my wedding dress there also.

Recently the owners wife passed away. I miss seeing her smiling face, and she always wore a flower in her hair. Since they have been in business that long, do you remember when we got married we purchased our china, crystal and wedding rings all at the jewelry store?

Her son has taken over the business and is in the process of going through things.

In a back room they had drug out boxes from the basement.

Do you want to see what we have Ann?

I spotted the white melmac immediately! My friend has been looking for some. Here was a entire set, plates, bowls, cups, saucers serving pieces in pristine condition..........NEVER USED.

When I flipped them over and saw 

I was astonished.

I quickly was calling and texting my friend

then I spotted the turquoise!

My friends favorite, flipped them over and saw

Fostoria!

I thought they would look good with the white

the pattern is Retro Chalet and is from the 50's.

Yes these have been sitting in storage since the 50's!

Squeel!

I picked up all 60 + pieces for my friend for $1 a piece.

Love the fact they are new, never used and vintage.

American Fostoria with the stickers still on

Picked up 3 plates and this saucer

The use to have my blue Fostoria Navarre Blue

but could not find any

But if you like Navarre they have plenty of creamer and sugars

or some assorted glasses

they even had more fostoria like my Mom's holly

clear plates with etching.

another table had 1980's stoneware sets, Candlewicking, coin glass, fostoria juice glasses, candlesticks! It was overwhelming.

and these I thought were Blue Ridge dishes at first

they had a creamer and sugar

the company went out of business in 1957 before I was even born!

I need to go back and really spend sometime there.

They also were bringing out vintage jewelry and I bought a beautiful brooch for $20.

It was wonderful and sad at the same time.

I wonder what Mrs. Butterfield would think? 

I guess as things went out of fashion they went to the basement.

My friend is delighted and plans on using them.

Last week we were in Chicago for my cousins wedding

she was beautiful, yes that is the groom looking at her with adoring eyes.

5 of the 7 of us were together again

check out that omelet!

Vacation started today.

Love fall, my birthday is a week from Saturday

so that means.....Cousin Weekend!
