Some People Do Make a Difference

December 19 is my Daddy's birthday

He will be in my thoughts today as he is every day.
I know I have mentioned what a special person he was,
but he was.
He was such a wonderful teacher and he loved teaching.
Critics can complain about Facebook
but let me share somethings that have been posted over the
last few months....about my Daddy
He was the HS Biology teacher and started the Football team
Here he is in the Teachers Lounge

at his beloved Cumberland 77

Back row 1950 and his first teaching job
1952 coaching Jr High basketball

"I have a bucket list. It is to tell those who had a major impact on my life,
Your Dad was not only the best teacher I ever had, he changed my life.
I could never pay attention in school, my Mother had me tested.
Your Dad was such an excellent teacher that I was riveted in his class.
He had a reputation for being tough but class was so interesting, that I could
easily learn from him.
And I think he told others that I was smart, as I started doing
better in other classes.
I have a Masters Degree in Guidance.
I am sure I would never of gone to college if it had not
been for Mr. Winkler."

"I saw your Dad's picture on FB and wanted to let you know, I still remember the things he taught me in Biology class"

"Ann you don't know me but your Dad was my favorite teacher. He made Biology interesting for me"

"Ann you probably don't remember me but, your Dad got me interested in Science, and that
continues to this day. I can honestly said your Dad gave me the NEED to keep learning.
I continue to do that daily, God Bless him"

He has been gone 34 years and died at 53.
To think people still remember him touches me.
But to know he changed so many lives in his short life.

Not only the best Dad
but the best human being.

Teachers do make a difference.

Love, Ann

Your father left behind a wonderful legacy. Good teachers leave a lasting impression. I don't think we ever realize how we impact our students. It must be comforting to know that he lives on in the hearts of his dear students.

Ann, that is so sweet that his students remember him and so great that he was such an inspiration to them. You must be very proud!
