What November 11th Means To Me

Veterans Day as it is know.
I don't think most people know that it is to celebrate
the end of WWI.
I honor my Grandfather

My Dad in front of 1515
December 1943

And all the men in my family
who fought to keep us safe.

But this day........
Is a day my life changed 10yrs ago.

My Mom, my best friend
died very unexpectedly.

Circumstances are strange.
It was a Monday morning and my car would not start.
So while I waited for Mr. to come get me, I called her.
We had a typical conversation, but it always ended with
"I love you"
About 2 hrs later her best friend called me
and life changed.........

My life would never be the same.
For no one loves you like your Mother.
How I miss her sweet smile, the hug, the kiss on the cheek.

the silly things we would do
here our dog Kelly is curled up like a
human in bed with her!

I still at times find myself for a very split second
think...."oh I am going to call Mom and...."
well you know the rest.

Saturday mornings at 1000, I still can see her pulling up
in my driveway, to spend the occasional weekend with us.

The last time I saw her we went to a estate auction
down the street from her house. She wanted me to stay and go to the
church's steak supper with, but I wanted to get home to Mr.
I guess I wished I would of stayed.

If I had just one wish it would be for one more night in the house that I grew
up in, to wake up and see my Mom in the kitchen.

I don't like being an orphan.
I lost my Dad at 18 and my Mom at 43.
But I think, even though I had them for a shorter time,
it is ok since they were the best parents in the world.

So on November 11th
I honor more than most....

Fine loving blog to your parents. Of course I still feel strong close to my grandmother despite the fact it was many years since she died. I hear her advice in me and her her love. Warm Hug Zinnia

Your post was so touching. My daddy was in WWI and it is this day each year that I post pictures as my remembrance of him. It is a way I can honor him and the other valiant patriots who fought for our freedoms in The Great War. The picture of your granddaddy looks like the ones of my daddy. He lived to be almost 101 and my mother to 90. I was far more fortunate than so may like you who lost patents way too soon. I loved your post today. genie

Such a sweet post. My mom's been gone more than 25 years.Sometimes I dream about her and it is like a visit. I watch the movie "Peggy Sue Got Married" about twice a year just for the part where Peggy Sue's teenage self, after going back in time, friends drop her off at the home of her teenage years, she calls out for her mom , and sure enough she's there in the other room. I cry at that part of the movie every time. What I would give to go back in time, knowing what I know now, and get home from school and find my mom in the kitchen. It was so everyday to me then.

Oh, sweetie, you are not an orphan. God, the Father, is with you all the time.
I miss my mom, but she still comes to visit and I talk and talk to her. You know when they are there.
Just think of the fun we will all have on the other side. No more partings.

My parents were married on Veterans day and I was born a day after Veterans Day..My dad and my brother were both Veterans and I miss them both so much. I know how sad it is to miss your mom as I too miss mine everyday. My mom died on Easter morning! It was so sad going to Easter service without her. How awesome to have her leave on the day our Lord rose..we are blessed to have these beautiful memories.

Such a touching day. I know you miss your sweet mama. I lost my dad as a teen and my mom as an adult and find the older I get the more I miss them because the more I understand them. Bless you!

Darling Ann,
I came over to thank you for your sweet comment to me - I felt so very sad and it was so nice to see your name in my comments.

What a lovely post and tribute to your grandfather (I have photos like that of my mom's daddy) and all the men in your family.

But even more so, about your mom because I am a motherless daughter too. (I lost my mom when I was 42. Well, I am an orphan now, both parents gone and my only sibling, my brother gone.)

I can feel your love for her and your missing her. How wonderful you had her so very close by. (My mom and I shared many of the same interests too.)

Thank you again for your kindness and I'm sending you lots of hugs,

Sally xo
