Children of the Revolution

It is Published!

The 3rd book written by my cousin David Bowles.

If you like historical novels you would enjoy this series.

I had so much fun helping David with the research for

He has self proclaimed me the "Mitchell Genealogist"
My ancestor John is in the book, some passages bring me
to tears because David has brought him to life.

But can I tell the story of how the books came to be?

You have heard me mention
Aunt Annie before
She was interested in Family History
She wanted to preserve our
Galbreath- Mitchell history.
She did by putting the history in book form.

Her Great Great Grandfather was
Adam Mitchell
he fought on his family farm during the
Battle of Guilford Courthouse
1781
Our ancestor is his son John

Some 150 years later she came in contact
with another sons family
Hezeikiah
they were from Corinth MS

they knew the same story.
The story of Adam's mother Margaret, hiding with the children
in the Spring House and fighting off British Solders.
When they found her and the children,
the solder ordered her to get up so he could inspect the trunk she was sitting on
she would not! "you can kill me but I won't get up"
The solder left her and the children unharmed.
What was in the trunk?

Our Mitchell family bible dated 1767
it is still in our family
Also, the family pewter that could of been melted down
to use as ammunition by the British.
After the Battle, Margaret tended to the wounded, on
both sides.
And went directly to General Cornwallis
demanded her son, Adam who had been
captured and held in a pig pen, be returned home.
Her request was granted.

What was amazing was in 1940
2 families who had not been in contact with each other
knew the SAME story.

Move forward to
2007
I met cousin David Bowles, from the daughter of Adam
Rebekah.
He had written a book about our family!
Spring House

the story of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
David did not know about the family bible and
I was able to give him the correct spelling of
Rebeckah.
David and I had a wonderful time when we put
together a Adam Mitchell reunion
in Jonesborough TN
2009
There are 10,000 descendants by now.
About 50 attended from
4 of Adam's 13 children.
We only have contact with Robert, John, Rebeckah and Hezikah.

Over the years we have become
close cousins.
Many times we are going through documents, frequent phone calls, bouncing ideas
off each other about our ancestors.
The dining table and 1515 when we were working on
Children of the Revolution.

It has brought so much joy to me.
David and I may be 5th cousins
but there is such a strong bond,

The Mitchell family bond.

Hi Ann! Oh, how exciting! That's wonderful you've helped your cousin with preparation on his books! I love reading your family history stories! What an amazing woman your auntie was, brave and protecting her children. I may have to find these books and read them as I'm working on my DAR ancestor! :)
Be a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me. It's good to be home,
Shelia ;)

Good Afternoon! I am researching My Husband and Son's Mitchell family history and have possibly traced their line back to Adam Mitchell. I found this blog and thought I would reach out for possible help with the line? You are welcome to email me at taralyn.mitchell77@gmail.com

Thank you!
