The Green Chair from Greenup

On beautiful cool mornings like today, you will find me on the front porch sipping my coffee while sitting in my "green chair from Greenup".

You ask.....what is that?

This is my green chair on the front porch,
it is so comfy.
My hometown has several antique shops and when I was buying things for my garden cottage, I spotted this.
It was at a store in the old bank, and as Mike from pickers would say "it was farm fresh". I think it had been pulled out of a barn, it had mud embedded in the wicker. It was not cheap, more than I normally would ever pay.....but it was a few months after my Mom died so I told myself, go ahead and get it.

I think in it's previous life it must of been on an old farm porch, and was there for the farmer to sit, drink an ice tea and cool off after a day in the fields.

While sitting in it what have people seen?
Children playing, neighbors waving, and a garden growing.

It was only in the cottage a short time. My inlaws sold their home and it was replaced my a slipper chair in the basement my MIL was going to throw out.
The slipper chair was perfect for the cottage, so the "green chair from Greenup", ended up on the front porch....probably where it belonged anyway.

I love the design of it. It is so well made and sturdy.
The arms are large enough to set a drink on or in my case to put my laptop on.
What would that 1920's farmer think of a laptop?

It is my place where I wait for Mr. to come home, to take a break from gardening and a place to contemplate life.
It is my "green chair from Greenup"
it makes me feel close to home............
it makes me feel close to my Mom.........
It embraces me.

Where is your comfy place?

Have a wonderful day.
ANN

Comfy and GORGEOUS!! I know these old pieces are expensive, but they are so well worth it. Yours is so beautiful. I'd have more wicker if I could keep it out of the weather.

Well Ann, n the winter it's in the house on my long hot pink couch with all the fur babies. But in the summer it's in my red and white porch swing that doesn't hang on the porch because I don't have one lol.
Love your green chair from Greenup. I could certainly sit there and watch my husband garden too : )

Hi Ann, your green chair is so darn cute! I have always loved wicker. Worth every penny you paid for it I'm sure. What a wonderful piece to relax and sip. I hope you will share this with my party. Also wanted to let you know that I will be featuring your Vintage Kitchen today.
Hugs,
Jann

Awesome chair! I'd love to find one like that with the wide arm rests. You sort of hit home with your story of buying it a couple of months after your mom passed away. I was just talking to a friend last night on the phone about something similar. My dad just passed away and my friend said that something will hit me just right to buy sort of as a special remembrance of him. Maybe I'll find a comfy wicker chair!!!

I love your old wicker piece. I don't think I have ever seen a chair with arms quite like that. It is a perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by.

I have a down filled chair in our family room that is my "go to" place.xo Diana

That is a great wicker chair. I love the design. Sometimes it is well worth paying more for something that doesn't come around very often. I don't know what you piad but it looks like you did good!

Love this post about your old wicker chair. My comfy spot is my daybed on my back porch. I've been known to take a nap or two there.

My comfy cozy favorite spot is also green. It's an old green recliner that's much too old for any room but my office/craft room. It's still the most comfy recliner in our house although we now have new ones in the den. When we moved from Missouri to Arizona, we didn't bring much furniture because we were planning on buying all new things. I did, however, bring my old green recliner. Sometimes I just go in that room to read or take a quick nap in my old friend. I hope I can keep it forever.
