Happy Birthday!

Almost every birthday memory I have is in my Grandmother's dining room.
She always made me a chocolate cake and placed it on this

This may not look special but it is because it rotates and plays Happy Birthday.

When my Grandfather died and we were cleaning out the house I told my Mother, I had to take this. Too many happy memories of us singing to one another as this plate spun with a pretty homemade cake.

Grandma kept most things in the original boxes.

The box says it all!

your wind the base and then there is a lever similar to a music box so you can turn it of and on
when your ready

Still looks like it just came out of the box new!

Grandma had it wrapped in paper...from May 1965
I can show you the first time it was used

January 1965, my Great Grandmother Emma's 90th birthday
(oh look I have that tablecloth too...I just noticed!)

And the last time we used it..........

this weekend for my brother

46 years and still working

My favortie part of my blog is to be able to show you things that were used long ago and are still being used today that are family pieces. It only make sense since I am so....Sentimental.

Happy VTT

Also joining Thrifty Things Friday

well I found it in Grandma closet and it was free.....

A great blog filled with wonderful family memories. I definitely have some great memories of my one of my grandmothers. A house to house salesman would come by their house selling tea. She made the most heavenly ice tea ever. No one could match it.

I am partial to items that have family memories associated with them. I enjoyed reading the history behind this lovely piece. How wonderful that your grandmother took such good care of this special cake stand and even more wonderful that you are continuing the tradition.

I have never seen one of those before. It is very cute. Love the photo from 1965. Looks like it could have been taken at my house.

Love this post. My husband's family has a particular chocolate cake they make for birthdays too. At this point I am the only one who still makes it. My kids would never want anything else. Traditions are wonderful...and I think sentimental is a very good thing. Have a good week.

To have this treasure from your grandmother? SO SO COOL.
I love how beautiful the white cake looks with all of you at the table. I have fond memories of my grandmother's home like that too.
Your blog is full of nostalgia. I LOVE IT.
