64 years ago.........

64 years ago my Mother and Father were married.

I had planned a more elaborate post but my work schedule has been torture lately, so here is a snippet.

I think they look pretty happy!
August 10, 1947

My Moms wedding book that she so meticulously filled out.

The invitation

Tell me where they first met

I guess making fun of the men!

Family tree

Even memories of their first married Christmas....they got a pound of bacon!

My parents were only able to celebrate exactly 30 years of marriage before my Dad died.  I now realize how young my Mother was. But the memories never faded.

And one last note...
Facebook has a page about my home county, "you know your from..."
I have been so touched by the number of people that remember having both of my parents as their teachers. I have even had people send me private messages to tell me how my Father touched their lives and made a difference in their life which continues to this day. It touches my heart to think after all these years, people remember 2 such wonderful people.
I think they were a pretty fantastic couple!

Oh this post really touched me. We do need to count every day with the ones we love as precious.

Teachers do indeed make a difference to every person. Whether they acknowledge it or not.

Girl, love this post. My parents' anniversary was the 7th of this month. They were married in 1954 in Charleston on Vine Street in my grandparents' house.
My uncle Vernie made the ice cream for Green's and my mom worked there later on in high school.
We have a page here about Oakland, too, and I saw the one on Charleston. I need to go on there and see what they are saying.
Glad you are having fun on it!

Hi Ann,
What a wonderful post. You're so fortunate to have all this information and pictures of your parents wedding. Your Mom's handwriting was beautiful. Isn't that something that you have heard from people who knew your Dad all those years ago! What a wonderful man he must have been. Thanks for sharing this with us...I really enjoyed it. Have a wonderful day!

What a wonderful post! My parents were married back in the 40's too. How different things must have been back then! The pound of bacon cracked me up!

It's so wonderful that you have this wedding scrapbook! How wonderful to have so many students share memories of their time with your parents as teachers.

Ann, what a beautiful and touching post. How sad that they only had 30 years together -- that goes by in a blink of an eye! (Howard and I will be 33 years later this month, so I know.)

A pound of bacon? I think my new son-in-law would think that a dandy Christmas gift!

I love the old photos -- I enlarged them to see every detail. What a very good looking couple your parents were!

wonderful post ... thanks!
Cass

I know you said at the outset that you planned a more elaborate post, but that was just beautiful. What a blessing to have such sweet memories and links to the past! I always think it would be wonderful to be able to see my parents as they were as hopeful young adults just starting out.
