A Auction Find Highlights Family Heirlooms and Ladies

A few years ago at the Tuesday night auction I go to with my friend when I am 1515 I saw a great little shelf

It was walnut and the scroll work on the side reminded me of something?

My Mom's treasured walnut end tables.
One of the first things my Mom and Dad got when setting up housekeeping in 1947

After my Mother died I could not part with them and one I used in my spare bedroom as a side table.
But when I bought 1515 I thought perfect!

One on each side of the couch at 1515 and you can see the shelf

Recently I was scanning old slides

1957 my sweet Daddy and to his left one of the tables.
This was in their apartment

Moving on to the 1970's
1971
Myself and my beloved dog
Cumberland Queen Ann
and there is the end table
Dad taking goofy pictures of Mom and I with the end table there again

There are so many things I look back at and see something from my parents or Grandparents I use to this day.

So back to the shelf
It is there to honor the women who came before me along with my collection of Remember Me cups

all Grandmothers with the exception of Aunt Annie on the rt

My 2nd Great Grandmother Martha Houston Mitchell Galbreath
she was a true pioneer woman. She raised 13 children, learning herbs healing effects from the local Indians in Illinois in the 1820's, her father survived the Revolutionary War Battle of Guilford Courthouse fought on his parents plantation.
So yes I Remember you

Martha's son James Adam Galbreath with his bride Catherine Fitzhue Wilson on their wedding in 1886. She is the little girl in the tin type about the time she lost her mother.
I think of them as Mama and Papa because of my Aunt Annie's diaries.
They lived at 1515 with my Grandparents during the depression
after they had to sell their farm and house in town.

Catherine's Mother  and Grandmother
Mary Hickman Wilson died in childbirth, this is the only picture I have of her.
The nurse in me wonders why did she have a droop mouth,
did she have something that contributed to her death in childbirth at the age of 34 such as a stoke?

Her mother Catherine Sherer Hickman is on the rt and that is a card celebrating her 90th birthday.
I had a post once about her birthday part where her Grandaughters baked a 90 layer cake.
My Grandmother thought of her as her Grandmother even though she was her Great Grandmother.
Through my Aunt Annie's diaries I know so much about her even with her being my 3rd Great Grandmother.

I do Think of Them
My Paternal Grandmothers were wonderful examples for me to live by.
We all have hardships and happiness they make us who we are today.
I truly believe our ancestors made us who we are even if we never knew them.
So blessed to know them from Aunt Annie's diaries and to have their pictures to reflect on at 1515.

Have a great day.
And take time to think of those who came before you.

Just Gotta Love a Auction! and Pyrex!

Near 1515 there is a Auction house that has a every Tuesday night auction and a once a month Antique auction.
It is the same place I got my Fostoria cake plate recently.
They have online bidding and they post pictures on FB and their website.
The pictures are not too clear and 40 items could be in one picture but I spotted this at the end of the table in one picture!
It was a gamble but boy did it pay off.
$4
For Bluebirds for Patty in perfect condition

Pink Daisy 1 1/2 quart for me.
and
2 pieces of Gooseberry Pink for $4
I was happy when the girl from the auction house called and said I won.
Over the years I have been lucky in person...

the daisy set for another friend for $2.50

or my first Friendship pieces

I am afraid someone is going to catch on and I won't be so lucky.

My Pyrex buddies from work and myself all had the flu last week.
So Monday 2 of us are off and after a weekend of rest we are headed to 1515 for the day.
Seems the antique mall at home has a new vendor I spotted last weekend
as I was starting succumb to the flu.
I snatched this up
Compass divided dish to go with my barbwire and

black snowflake
and do you see my Christmas tree mugs I have neglected to show you?
Bought them in Dec. I am still behind since my computer was dead for a month and now I left my camera at my in laws so i phone pics only.

So come shopping with me at the Copper Eagle

Jan is in the Grand Cayman Islands but I promised to pick up the pink lasagna.

anyone need a primary set? I am grabbing those 2 small red hostess bowls.

and it may not be Pyrex but I love the glassbake brown tulip

Patty wants to bring home the golden boomerang coffee carafe and
the Turquoise Princess  Casserole
there is even more, a frosted garland Christmas casserole, daisy, barbed wire, another compass, friendship and butterprint.

Can't wait to go back Monday.
So it is a road trip, Pyrex and lunch with the twins.

Have a great day!

It's Auction Time!

I went home during the week to 1515
Working on the Riot Fundraiser Auction
and
Attended the weekly auction with my friend
want to see...........?

I put some baskets together for the Fundraiser and took pictures so we can put them on our poster that will be going out around the county.
of course I forgot my camera....so they are not the best pictures
the primitive basket I put together for the Fundraiser
love all the burlap, 1803 candle, Illinois cookbook, 2 dish towels, burlap wrapped hand soap dispenser, Civil war lavender hanging burlap bag and the basket.
what do you think?

being from St Louis I put a Cardinal basket together.
Some things are game day giveaways.

Books donated by one of our speakers and my friend at her shop gave me these Lincoln book ends!

I also picked up our tee shirts!
blue and white and the back says
"I had a riot in Charleston IL"
One of the antique stores in town is selling some for us
Sweet Cousin Fred was the first sale!

Did some shopping too
wanted to buy these Daisy Blue ridge set at the thrift store
they were marked 60% off the $110 but still too much for my budget

Now on to the Auction!
Do you watch pickers?
Do your recognize this guy?
this guy is always there and he was on a episode of American Pickers onetime!

Now I spent a whopping $8!

Spode Cookies for Santa platter
I don't think it has ever been out of the box
which is marked
$21, I spent
$1 on it!

Plate stands are not cheap and I got these for $1
I also got some Pyrex
 it is another
red square hostess bowl with the lid for $4

I also got this from my auction friend for $2 and I am in love
Flamingo Pink even with a holder in perfect shape!

I also picked up these numbers for $5
the W went up at 1515
I want to hang it on the wall but in the mean time it looks OK on the Hoosier Cabinet.

Won't be going again until October

So what is your favorite piece?
and
Would you bid on any of my Fundraiser items if you were here?
