Fun Day......always is when Antiques are involved!

My SIL invited me over to her house to go through some of her Mom's things.

Thought you might like to see and get your opinion on stuff.
Now mind you her Dad was born in Yugoslavia so I wonder if somethings might be from Europe?

First thing was some vases I never seen before?
They are very opaque white milk glass type vases.
They appear Victorian?
This is where I need help from Richard and My Old Historic House
they are beautiful but on this I had no idea of the value?

unusual meat fork, the other attatchment on it is like a clip to grab the meat.
I knew it was not made of wood but a horn or bone
design on the handle
the end looks like bone
any ideas?

for life of me I can not remember the name of this pattern?

pretty Bavarian celery dish, right up my alley

probalby worth about $20?

older plate I am thinking from the late 1800's

condtion issues? $40?

her Mom's negleica from her honeymoon circa 1946
other than the wrinkles in mint condition
no way could I sell this

the hat I sold to my Girlfriend for $10
love the bow

my heart skipped a beat when she brought out the
vintage Christmas corsages!
I told her to keep them!
love them
she had a crystal bowl and I threw them in it and said
"perfect for Christmas" she loved the idea.

Barbie view master reels

these were her Mom's glasses.
Told her I would try to find the pattern

It was fun
I wanted to bring most of it home with me!
I did bring home some cookbooks
I hope some of you can help with the vases and the meat fork

Thanks!

Bastille Day

I had a great day yesterday.
I went to my SIL house to go through some of her Mom's things she no longer wanted to see if I could give an idea on the value.

Then we went to lunch at my favorite little spot.
and I had not been there since they expanded!
When we walked in they were making crepes to give away.
My favorite is a cheese crepe I love to get around Montmarte.
But today I got a nutella one and it was yummy.

If you wondered what I had, I had the Quiche Lorraine.
But on the way out look at the view!
croissant filled with a variety of things
look at the gorgeous colors of the macaroons!
everything looks glorious!
we wandered around like zombies trying to decide.

I could not resist the Eiffel tower cookie for Mr and I
huge ham and Swiss croissants for breakfast
and
chocolate filled croissants!

Since we can not be there in person I brought a little bit of Paris home

Happy Bastille Day!

Next post I will show you my SIL's treasurer and maybe some of you can help me identify them?

A Great Weekend

Mr. and I had a great weekend!
He actually went to 1515 with me.
Yard work done before we left
the best part it was cool and we had the air off!?

love my yellow dahlia
took a bouquet to 1515
after every thing else it done it is nice to have something blooming

my clematis is finally blooming
I was afraid that it had died after the heat last year

we love hanging out on our front porch

our neighbors had a great display on the 4th we watched from our deck

The twins always have a great 4th party but this year it was called
" 4 plus 2"
July 6th
So family was in town at 1515
we had 9 of us there so we had blow up beds in the living room and dining room!

Jen made her famous mac and cheese

Grandmother and Grandaughter worked on desert
oh no a little problem with the chocolate!
but having fun!
on to the party
serious discussion about the fireworks
the twins bid on and won at a fundraiser a
PROFESSIONAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY!!!
OH MY!
Mr and cousin Sheryl look festive!

Went to our friends across the street for the fireworks
The fire Marshall marked on where we could sit and the
fire truck was there!
I did not get good pictures but I am telling you everyone kept saying
"I felt like I was in the middle of the firework!"
It was like being downtown St Louis but it was right in our own backyard
and experience I will never forget!
they set them off on the dam by the lake
about 50 of us
special time for Grandma and Grandson
yep we were happy!
thank you to my friend and auction buddy for letting us use her beautiful backyard!

I told the twins that knowing them is a life changing experience for so many people.
The bring out of the ordinary experiences to us that we would not normally experience
like the horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow this past January
and professional fireworks in the backyard.
So blessed am I.

4th of July

4th of July

"the Second Day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more"

John Adams

Amazing words that still hold true today.
So what do you have planned?

A quiet day for Mr. and me, pork steaks on the grill.
Saturday the twins have a big party and this year will be spectacular!
They have a profession firework company coming!
It will be good for Mr. and I to get away.

What does the 4th mean to you?
It reminds me of my HS days and 1976
I keep thinking my 1976 mementos will be valuable someday, you think?

My mind turns to 2 men who fought for our right to celebrate this day.
William Galbreath
Revolutionary War Veteran of 7 years and
my 3rd Great Grandfather
buried at our family cemetery
He met my GGGGrandmother at a party her Uncle was holding for George Washington.
Hard to believe they ended up on the Illinois Prairie

The other is Adam Mitchell my 4th Great Grandfather
His farm turned into the Battle of Guilford Courthouse
He was captured by the British and held in a pig pen
while his family hid in the spring house
as depicted in my cousins book
That is my 3rd GGrandfather sitting on the rock
The story is in what happened in that Spring House.
A British soldier found them, my 5th Great Grandmother sitting on her trunk
with the family pewter and family bible.
Margaret Mitchell told the soldier "you can burn my home but I am not getting off this trunk"
They were not getting her pewter to melt down or the family bible

So the story continues
I am happy to say at our reunion there it will be
well worn
see the date Feb 1767
when Adam was married
my mind goes back to the Spring House with Margaret sitting on that trunk..........
232 years after that battle.
246 years after it was first written in.
We will celebrate our heritage and our
Patriot ancestors in 2 weeks
I think John Adams, Adam Mitchell and William Galbreath would be pleased.
